The Mechanical Aquarium by Ugears is an ingenious saltwater fish bowl, with two tropical fish chasing each other around a forest of algae leaves. In which there is also a seahorse. The beauty and variety of keeping saltwater fish makes it one of the world’s most popular hobbies.

Not only is this DIY aquarium model kit, with its original theme and design, a great addition to the Ugears catalog, but it also features a unique mechanical drive. The fish and algae rotate simultaneously and parallel, at different speeds, in different directions, simulating the flowing undulating rhythms of underwater plant and animal life. The elegant fish look like they are really swimming as they move their heads and tails back and forth. The mechanical aquarium model is unique because while many ugears models are powered by rubber band motors, it is now powered by a spring for longer operation and longevity.

To get the model moving, turn the knob under the aquarium by about 25 half turns. Then flip the switch from “STOP” to “SWIM” mode and watch the mechanical aquarium come to life. The mechanism includes an internal pendulum to control and smooth the movement. We designed this model with the goal of operational simplicity for users: one switch, two modes: on and off. You can stop the model at any time or just let it go and enjoy the movement of the fish and leaves for about 40 seconds.

With Ugears, there is always that extra touch of whimsy, epitomized in this model by the hidden seahorse in the middle.
